Biografie Filip Batselé (° 1994) behaalde in 2017 het Masterdiploma in de rechten aan de Universiteit Gent (Summa cum laude). Gedurende deze studies verbleef hij ook een semester aan de University of Glasgow (Erasmus+). Filip vervolledigde zijn studies met een LL.M. in internationaal recht aan The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Boston), waar hij de Leo Gross Prize for Outstanding Student of International Law ontving. Na zijn studies heeft Filip stage gelopen bij de Europese Commissie (DG Handel eenheid F1: WHO, OESO, Exportkredieten en dual use), en de VN-Universiteit (afdeling Brugge). Filip is lid van het instituut sinds oktober 2019. Zijn expertise is in de geschiedenis van het internationaal recht, meer specifiek het internationaal investeringsrecht (met een bijzondere focus op Europa). Zijn doctoraatsonderzoek, dat begeleid wordt door Professor Dirk Heirbaut en Professor Frederik Dhondt, gaat over de geschiedenis van bilaterale investeringsbeschermingsovereenkomsten ("BITs") in West-Europa.
Biography Filip Batselé (° 1994) graduated with a Master’s degree in Law from Ghent University in 2017 (Summa cum laude). During those studies, he also spent a semester abroad at the University of Glasgow (Erasmus+). Afterwards, he completed an LL.M. in International Law at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Boston, USA), where he received the Leo Gross Prize for Outstanding Student of International Law. After his studies, Filip interned at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade (Unit F1: WTO coordination, OECD, Export Credits and Dual Use) and the United Nations University - CRIS (Bruges). Filip joined the Institute for Legal History in October 2019. His research focuses on the history of international law in general, and the history of international investment law, with a geographical focus on Europe, in particular. His PhD research, under the supervision of Professor Dirk Heirbaut and Professor Frederik Dhondt, deals with the history of Western European Bilateral Investment Treaty ("BIT") programs..
