Biografie

Sebastiaan Vandenbogaerde (Kortrijk, 1983) is historicus (UGent 2006), jurist (UGent 2010) en beëindigde succesvol de master-na-masteropleiding Vennootschapsrecht (KU Leuven 2021). In 2014 behaalde hij het doctoraat in de rechten met het onderwerp Vectoren van het recht. Geschiedenis van de Belgische juridische tijdschriften.

Sinds 2010 is hij verbonden aan het Gentse Instituut voor Rechtsgeschiedenis en doet hij onderzoek naar de juridische periodieke pers, de impact van de wereldoorlogen op het nationale en internationale recht en gender en rechtsgeschiedenis. Na enkele academische mandaten aan de Gentse universiteit is hij sinds 1 oktober 2017 houder van een prestigieuze FWO-postdoctorale beurs. Zijn onderzoeksproject bekijkt de juridische tijdschriften gepubliceerd in continentaal Europa tijdens het Nazi-regime (1933-1950). Dit project gaat op zoek naar de manier waarop juridische ideeën zich internationaal verspreiden en welke rol juridische tijdschriften daarin spelen.

Verder doceert Sebastiaan Vandenbogaerde het vak Algemeen, burgerlijk en medisch recht aan de eerstejaarsstudenten Logopedie en Audiologie. Hij treedt regelmatig op als gastdocent in binnen- en buitenland. Hij is ook redacteur van de Rechtshistorische Courant, de elektronische nieuwsbrief die elke maand een overzicht brengt van het reilen en zeilen binnen de rechtshistorische wereld in de Lage Landen

Biography

Sebastiaan Vandenbogaerde (Courtrai, 1983) studied history (Ghent University 2006), law (Ghent University 2010) and obtained a degree in corporate law. In 2014 he obtained a PhD in Law on the topic Vectors of the law. History of Belgium’s legal periodicals.

Since 2010 he has been affiliated with the Ghent Legal History Institute where he conducts research on the legal periodical press, the impact of both world wars on national and international law and gender and legal history. After several academic mandates at the Ghent Faculty of Law (Ghent University), the FWO granted him a prestigious postdoctoral scholarship. Since 1 October 2017, his research project focusses on legal periodicals published in continental Europe during the Nazi era (1933-1950). This project scrutinizes how legal ideas could be disseminated internationally and what role legal journals play as an intermediator

Sebastiaan Vandenbogaerde is also responsible for the introductory course General, civil and medical law to first-year students Speech Therapy and Audiology. He regularly acts as a guest lecturer at his home institution and abroad. He is also editor of the Rechtshistorische Courant, the electronic newsletter which informs every month the readership about the legal historian world in the Low Countries.
