The primary function of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Law and Economics is to conduct extensive interdisciplinary research in various fields of law and economics. The interaction between academic scholarship on the highest international level and the expertise of practicians within the Centre should provide the framework for fruitful results that will be of help for business, economic and policy makers, members of the legal profession and the general public. Accredited research on topics of public policy concern is one of the Centre's main purposes. The Centre hopes to stimulate international cooperation between law and economic scholars and contribute to the development of the international LE community. Also, such integration is further enhanced through participation in the Erasmus Programme of Law and Economics which gathers several European universities (British, German, Dutch, Belgian, Spanish, Italian, French, Austrian and Scandinavian) in an Academic Programme and a corresponding Academic Degree, which offers to students a post-graduate training scheme for their subsequent professional career.

As a meeting point for law and economics scholars the Centre will host several conferences. Its interest to promote research in law and economics will be exemplified with several publications (see e.g. the Encyclopedia of Law and Economics) and a Working Paper Series to broadcast research results.
