Kristaq Profkola
Nationality: Albanian
Graduation year: 2008
Fulbright Scholar and Attorney-at-law
This LLM program made me realise that the EU is probably one of the greatest achievement of the 20th century. The direct contact with such an international mix in the heart of Europe and the technical skillfulness of the professors in relation to a variety of current EU issues provided me with a realistic and professional view of how this gigantic institutional mechanism works and grows. My professional career and my life certainly took a complete change of course after my experience in Ghent. For that, I am always proud to be an alumnus of this program.
Kristaq obtained his law degree in 2006 from the University of Bologna, Italy and after a year of professional experience in a local Albanian law firm, he pursued the LLM in European and Comparative Law at Ghent University Law School. After his Belgium stint, he returned to Albania and worked since then as an associate for one of the largest law firms in Albania as well as for the Albanian government holding the position of Director of Legal Affairs at the Albanian Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection. In addition to that, Kristaq has also lectured in one of the largest private universities in Albania, holding seminars in Albanian Company Law. For all his accomplishments, he was recognised as a Young Leader 2012 Fellow of the Aspen Institute Romania and awarded the Fulbright Scholarship to further his academic advancement at the John Marshall Law School of Chicago in the States where he is now pursuing his second LLM in International Trade and Business Law.
