Dirk Vandermeersch studied law as well as criminology at Ghent University (1977) and law at Harvard Law School (LLM 1979). He has been practising law at the international law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP (New York and Brussels offices) since 1979, focussing on EU internal market law and EU/Belgian competition law. Mr. Vandermeersch has been a visiting professor at Ghent University law school since 1998. Prof. Vandermeersch has published more than 30 articles on EU and Belgian law and authored a book on Belgian competition law.
