News and Events

On Wednesday 21 March 2018, the LLM-programmes will be pleased to welcome Prof. Guiguo Wang, President of the Academy of International Strategy and Law, University Professor and National 1000 Plan Professor of Zhejiang University, to present the framework of ‘One Belt, One Road’ project and address its gradual development..

Title of the lecture: "China and the International Legal Order: One Belt, One Road"

The position of China in the international legal order in the 21st century is of critical importance as globalisation has entered a new phase and as the economic importance of China approaches maturity. The famous ‘Belt and Road’ initiative is China’s flagship programme to develop international commercial ties and development through a China-centred and China-funded multinational initiative. The biggest foreign spending programme by any one country since the U.S.' Marshall Plan, ‘One Belt, One Road’ has attracted interest around the world and the participation of about 70 countries worldwide. However, it has also raised concern as a vehicle for exported surplus economic capacity and extending political influence.

This lecture will review features of the contemporary world – coexistence of multilateral and bilateral economic collaboration arrangements and globalization as well as its impacts on members of the international community. Against this background, the lecture will discuss the status of B&R, how it is implemented, it’s relations with the existing world system, it’s trend of development and impact on the world.
