Objectives: 

The course intends to provide an introduction of the transport insurance activity, viz. its technique, regulation, contracts and customs. Besides the Belgian market, also the English (London) market is discussed.

Contents: 

The following aspects are studied: the sources of the transport insurance legal regime; the transport insurance business (organisation, functioning, parties involved): e.g., P&I Clubs; the classification of transport insurance (hull, cargo, liability); marine insurance in Belgium (Marine Insurance Act and Antwerp Marine Insurance Policy) and in the United Kingdom (Marine Insurance Act and Institute Clauses); Inland navigation insurance in Belgium and The Netherlands; Road transport insurance (CMR policy); Aviation insurance; Rail carriage insurance.
