Luca Ferro

Dr. Luca Ferro is a post-doctoral researcher at Ghent University. He wrote his dissertation on International 'Intervention' in Theory and in Practice under the supervision of Prof. Tom Ruys, assessing the legality of third-state involvement in the internal and external affairs of other states. He was a visiting scholar at Columbia Law School (New York City, USA) in 2018, sponsored by Prof. Lori Damrosch, and occasionally lectures on topics of international criminal law.

Luca obtained a Master of Laws degree from Ghent University in 2012, magna cum laude, and a Master of Laws degree in Advanced Studies in Public International Law (specialization International Criminal Law) from Leiden University (Leiden, the Netherlands) in 2013. During his master's programme in Leiden, he was selected for the University’s extracurricular ‘Talent Programme’, an advanced research techniques curriculum, and wrote his thesis on ‘Mitigation of Sentences at International Criminal Tribunals’ with Prof. William Schabas as his supervisor.

Before returning to Ghent University to pursue his Ph.D., Luca worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies at Leiden University for a year and seven months, where he was responsible, inter alia, for teaching Public International Law and assisting with research / editing for articles and books by several faculty professors. 

In October 2022, Luca Ferro was appointed assisting professor a the VUB.
