Luis McDonough

Luis McDonough earned a B.A. in International Relations (magna cum laude) from the Université catholique de Lille, before pursuing an LL.M. in Public International Law at Utrecht University, where he specialized in international environmental law and the law of the sea. His LL.M. thesis focused on the application of the law of occupation to coastal maritime areas.

During his studies, Luis interned for the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, D.C., United States; the environmental NGO ‘Pronatura Sur’ in Chiapas, Mexico; and the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS) at Utrecht University. Luis is fluent in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.

In October 2022, Luis joined the Maritime Institute at the Department of European, Public and International Law of Ghent University as a PhD researcher on the topic of the international fisheries regime.
