Peter Van de Vijver

Peter Van de Vijver studied law at Ghent University (1984) and International law at the Johns Hopkins University (1986). He has been active as a lawyer in several law companies since 1987 and was a lecturer of Maritime Law at the Antwerp Maritime Academy (1997-2013) and at Antwerp University (2011-2013).

Peter Van de Vijver is an expert in the fields of transport law and maritime law and builds a bridge between theory and practice. In 1997, he was appointed editor for the journal 'Tijdschrift Vervoer en Recht', following recent developments in the domain of transport law. He was also member of the working group of the Comité Maritime International, leading to a restatement of the general principles of the maritime law or Lex Maritima.

Since October 2023, Peter shares his maritime experience with the students of the MSc in Maritime Science programme as a teaching assistant of the Maritime and Transport Law courses.
